Faugères, Magnoux, Dom. St-Antonin - 2021

It is named after the oldest plot of Mourvèdre on the estate, Magnoux, and is a great wine of character that needs time to express the grandeur of the local terroir. Sublimated by a fine and very precise maturation, it opens with noble scents of tobacco and candied red fruits. Its tannic structure gives it a sappy side, which makes it well suited to ageing, even if it can be enjoyed young, decanted.

Viticulture

The Magnoux cuvée is the first wine of the estate, taking its name from an old mourvèdre vine. The volume of Magnoux produced varies greatly from one year to the next (note: no 2002 vintage).

Oenology

Hand picked, sorted in the cellar, 100% de-stemmed, vatted for 4 weeks. The wine is aged for two years. The first year is spent in casks and demi-muids, followed by a second year in vats.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Duck legs confit - Venison stew - Red meat.

Domain
After having worked in various wine estates, at a time when the profession of winegrower was not yet a dream, Frédéric Albaret decided to create his own in 1994, with 13 hectares of vines. His wife Fabienne joined him in 2001 in their brand new winery. The family and the estate grew and in 2012, the property had 26 hectares of vines, with plots of Syrah and Mourvèdre alongside old vines of Carignan and Grenache, traditional grape varieties of the region. To take care of the fragile schistose terroirs, the team in place carries out careful manual work throughout the year, in certified organic culture. At harvest time, the grapes are harvested by hand and placed in small crates, before being vinified in the simplest way possible, with gentle extractions to bring out the local terroir, in three perfectly distinct red wines that express the schist in three aesthetic ways.
